Lomaltapaluu *Vacation is over*

Täällä blogin puolella on pidellyt hiljaista, mutta allekirjoittaneen elämässä taas tapahtuu senkin edestä - ei tosin juurikaan käsitöiden merkeissä. Suurista tavoitteista huolimatta tuli 2,5 viikon Thaimaan reissulla tikutettua ainoastaan menomatkalla lentokoneessa. No okei, kerran taisin altaalla kaivaa langat ja puikot repusta, mutta siihen jäi eli olipa aikalailla käsityövapaa loma. Tässä lentomatkan aikaansaannokset. Kyseessä siis ikuisuusprojekti tilkkutäkki alias viltti. 

*It has been silent here on the blog, but in real life it has happened almost too much. Not on handicraft field though. Despite my big goals, I knitted, on my 2,5 week Thailand trip, only in the airplane. Well, okay, once I took yarns and needles out of backpack while sitting on the pool area. So it was quite handicraft free vacation. Here's something I knitted in the airplane.*

Aloittelin tätä projektia jo vuodenvaihteessa ja ajatuksena on freeform tekniikan ja tilkkupeitto tyylisen hässäkänpesän miksaus. Vielä näyttäisi puuttuvan öbaut 99 %, vaikka useammissa erissä tätä tuleekin tehtyä. Lankana toimii pääasiassa Novitan Miami. Katsotaan nyt, mitä kaikkea siihen tulee ajanmittaa sekoiteltua. Toki nyt löytyy jo SandnesGarnin Duoa ja Sirdarin Simply Recycled dk:ta joukosta. 

*I started this project in the begging of this year and the idea is to make with freeform technique. About 99 % is still missing at the moment, although I' knitting it in separate pieces. Mainly I've used Novita Miami yarn. There's also parts which are SandnesGarn Duo and Sirdar Simply Recycled dk yarn.*

Tässä vielä reaaliaikainen otos, tämän hetkisestä tilanteesta. Aika veikeähän tuosta tulee. Pakko sanoa, että tämä on muuten hauska tapa kokeilla erilaisia neulonta- ja miksei  virkkaustekniikoita!

DIY Kateliina ja sydämiä *DIY Plate doily and hearts*

Tämä postaus liittyy "Käsityöblogit" Facebook -ryhmän DIY helmikuu -kalenteriin, jossa jokaiselle osallistujalle annettiin oma päivä, jolloin tulisi julkaista jokin työ tee-se-itse -hengessä. Tässä tulee siis minun päiväni. 

Törmäsin ensimmäistä kertaa kateliinoihin viime jouluna, kun anoppikokelaani  oli laittanut joulupöydän kattaukseen sellaiset. Idea oli mielestäni hyvin näppärä, koska päällekäin olevat lautaset eivät kirsku toisiaan vasten kraavilohta sahatessa ja anoppikokelaan sanoja lainatakseni "tuovat kattaukseen viimeistelyn tuntua".  Omansa anoppikokelas oli omien sanojensa mukaan hankkinut Thaimaasta. Niinpä päässäni alkoivat kellot soida ja kaverin kanssa tultiin näinkin hienon idean äärelle. Tämä postaus ei siis sisällä hienoa itse tehtyä ohjetta brijantille idealle, vaan lähinnä vain sen idean!

Vähän kattausetiketistä. Kateliina voidaan käyttää katelautasen (koristelautanen) päällä, jolloin se estää vaihdettavien lautasten kilinää. Jos taas kateliina on asetettu pääruokalautasen päälle, se poistetaan kun alkupala on syöty. Kateliinoja on käytetty/käytetään myös säilytettäessä arvokkaita perintöposliineja, jotta ne eivät naarmuuntuisi.

*This post is part of DIY Helmikuu (February) calender of Käsityöblogit (Handicrafblogs) Facebook group. The idea of the calender is to give each participant their own day, when they post something you've made with your own hands. So here comes my day.

Please correct, if I'm using wrong word for this object! I saw plate doilies this Christmas, when my possible mother-in-law used them in Christmas dinner setting. I thought it was an excellent idea, because now the plates don't screech to each other while cutting your food. And as my possible mother-in-law said they "make the table setting look more polished". My possible mother in law said she had bought hers from Thailand. Then my bells rang and I came up with this great idea with good friend of mine.

Something about table setting etiquette (not sure how universal this is). The plate doily can be used on top of a service plate (charger), then the plates don't jingle when they are changed. If plate doily is used on top of the dinner plate, it is supposed to be taken away, when appetizers has been eaten. Plate doilies have been/are used also for storing of the valuable heritage china, so they don't scuff each other.*

*The shape of the plate doily doesn't really matter. It can be small and unnoticeable or very showy and big. I used the pattern for crocheted leaf. I tested it with three different ways. The first is the basic model.*

Halutessaanhan samalla ohjeella voi tehdä ohuella langalla lasinalusia tai paksummalla langalla, useampia lehtiä yhdistelemällä, kaitaliinan. 

*This pattern can be used for other stuff to. With thinner yarn, you can make coasters. And with thicker yarn you can make table runners by attaching multiple leafs.*

Kukkakassi, kauppakassi eli kassi *Flower bag, shopping bag, in other words a bag*

Virkkaajat ovat viime aikoina tehneet pää märkänä Happypotamuksia erilaisista afrikkalaisista kukista. Itse päätin olla hieman erilainen nuori ja väänsin vastaavilla kukilla kassin - tarkalleen ottaen kesäkassin tai kauppakassin eli kassin. Halutessaan tähänhän voi myös tehdä vuorin vaikkapa lakanakankaasta, mutta itse en nyt tähän hätään jaksanut opetella perintöompelukoneen käyttöä.

*Lately crocheters have been crocheting Happypotamuses with different kind of African Flowers. I decided to be a little bit different and crocheted a bag with the flowers - technically a summer bag or shopping bag, in other words a bag. You can also sew lining for the bag, but at this point, I didn't feel like learning to use my sewing machine, that I've gotten as a heritage.*

 Peruskukkia työhön tarvitaan yhteensä 35 kpl ja 2 kpl kolmionmuotoisia kukkia alakulmiksi. Kukkien ohjeita on netti pullollaan, mutta laitan itse hyväksi havaitun ohjeen tämän postauksen loppuun. Kun kaikki palat oli valmiina, järjestelin ne pöydällä kuvan järjestykseen. Kannattaaa muuten jättää aika reilut langanpäät, niin säästyy suurelta vaivalta kokoamisessa, kun käyttää suoraan niitä. Sitten vaan palat yhteen ja avot, pussiltahan se alkaa näyttää. Itse kiinnitin palat toisiinsa nurjalta puolelta silmukoiden takareunoista piilosilmukoilla. Vielä puuttuu yläreunan siistiminen ja olkahihna.

*You need 35 hexacon flowers (the normal ones) and 2 triangle flowers for this bag. Internet is full of patterns for the African flower, but I will explain the one I liked later. When you have all the flowers crocheted, place them on table like in the picture above. I recommend to leave long ends to the flowers, which you can use when assembling the bag. Then just crochet to pieces together and it starts to look like bag. I used slip stitches to back loops on the wrong side. Then I just need boards and strap.*

 Tein vähän erilaisen hihnan, jotta kassi saisi useamman käyttötarkoituksen. Ensimmäisenä olkalaukku...

Toisena kauppakassi... Napit on muuten vanhasta takista, kun nappivarastot on aikalailla nollissa. Ei ihan tuo tummansininen natsaa noihin kassin hemppisväreihin. 

*And shopping bag version. The buttons are from my old jacket, since I didn't have any spare buttons. The dark blue doesn't really fit with the colors of the bag.*

Tässä vielä lupaamani ohje afrikkalaiseen kukkaan (kuusikulmio 35 kpl), sekä sen 3 terälehtiseen versioon (kolmio 2 kpl).

1. krs: Virkkaa 5 ketjusilmukkaa (kjs) ja yhdistä renkaaksi piilosilmukalla (ps).
2. krs: 6 x (2 p, 1 kjs) aloitusrenkaaseen. Korvaa ensimmäinen pylväs 3 kjs:lla.Sulje krs ps:lla.
3. krs: Ota uusi väri. Jokaiseen ketjusilmukkalenkkiin (2 p, 1 kjs, 2 p) eli yhteensä 6 kertaa. Sulje krs ps:lla.
4. krs: Jokaiseen ketjusilmukkalenkkiin 7 p (yhteensä 6 kertaa). Sulje krs ps:lla.
5. krs Ota uusi väri. Jokaiseen pylvääseen 1 kiinteä silmukka (ks) ja pylväsryhmien väliin 1 ks  3. krs:n ketjusilmukan alta (terälehdet erottuvat paremmin). Sulje kerros ps:lla.
6. krs: Ota uusi väri. Jokaiseen kiinteään silmukkaan 1 p ja terälehden keskelle (1 p, 1 kjs, 1 p). Sulje kerros ps:lla.

Jotta pääteltäviä lankoja olisi mahdollisimman vähän, kannattaa langanpätkät päätellä kukan edetessä. Väri kannattaa vaihtaa piilosilmukan yhteydessä. Eli uusi lanka vedetään kierroksen ensimmäisen silmukan ja koukulla olevan silmukan läpi. Tämän jälkeen sekä uuden langan että "vanhan" langan päät otetaan työn "päälle", jolloin seuraavaa kerrosta tehdessä ne jäävät edellisen kerroksen silmukoiden päälle ja juuri tehtävän silmukoiden sisään. 

*Here's the pattern for the African flower I mentioned earlier

1. round: Chain 5 stitches and join with slip stitch to form a ring.
2. round: 6 x (2 double crochet (dc), 1 chain stitch) in the ring. Replace the first double crochet with 3 chain stitches. Join with slip stitch to first dc.
3. round: Take next color. (2 dc, 1 chain stitch, 2dc) in each chain space (6). Join with slip stitch to first dc.
4. round: 7 dc in each of the 6 chain spaces. Join with slip stitch to first dc.

1. round: Chain 3 stitches and join with slip stitch to form a ring.

3. round: Take next color. (2 dc, 1 chain stitch, 2dc) in each chain space (3). Join with slip stitch to first dc.
4. round: 7 dc in each of the 3 chain spaces. Join with slip stitch to first dc.
5. round: Take next color. 1 single crochet (sc) in each dc and between the petals 1 sc to chain stitch in third round in order to form the petal. Join with slip stitch to first sc.
6. round: Take next color. 1 dc in each sc and in the middle of each petal  (1 dc,1 sc, 1dc). Join with slip stitch to first dc.

To have least amount of ends to weave, it's wise to do so while crocheting the flower. To change color, do it when crocheting the last slip stitch. Pull the new yarn through the first stitch of the round and put both of the ends to the top of the work. Then they will be "inside" the next round. *

Jos joku tietää tällaisen tismalleen samanlaisen kassin ohjeen olevan jo jollain, niin ilmoitelkaa, jotten ota tätä " ideaa" täysin omiin nimiini! Totuuden nimessä, kokoamista sai jonkin verran miettiä, kun 3D hahmottaminen on toisinaan vähän niin ja näin... kännykässä olisi kuva mun ja kaverin askarteluhetkestä aiheeseen liittyen. Täytyy katsoa, jos saisin lisättyä sen tähän myöhemmin.

*If someone knows, there's instructions to exactly the same bag already somewhere, please tell. Then I don't take all the credit from that other person! I have to admit that the assembly wasn't that easy to figure out, thanks to not so great 3D imagination. I actually have good picture of the paper model (which I did with my friend) in my cell phone, that I'll try to add here later.*

Tuubihuivi ihan omasta hatusta *Tube scarf off the top of my head*

Lankalihotuksen myötä tuli ostettua aikalailla vahingossa teetee Taigaa. Noh, joku kiva huivihan siitä piti tehdä. Aikani Ravelryä selailtuani, tulin siihen tulokseen, ettei ainakaan ilmaisista ohjeista löytynyt ainuttakaan mieleistä. Jostain syystä mulla oli kuitenkin aika selvä visio siitä, miltä sen huivin pitäisi näyttää. Soveltamisen, modifioimisen ja hatusta vetäisemisen mestarina (ellen jopa guruna) keksin ihan oman mallin. Ja joo, ei siitä nyt ehkä tullut ihan niin yksinkertainen tehdä, kuin olin villeimmissä unissani kuvitellut. 

*When I was fattening my yarn stash I bought almost accidentally teetee Taiga yarn. Well, of course it had to be turned into scarf. After I had search through Ravelry for quite some time, I came to the conclusion there wasn't any free pattern that I liked. For some reason I had quite clear picture (in my head) how it should look. As a master (or even a guru) of application, modification and pulling off the top of my head, I created my own pattern. And yes, it didn't exactly turn out to be as simple I thought in my wildest dreams.*

Toteutus
Mallissa on ainoastaan ketju- ja piilosilmukoita. Ja kuvahan kertoo enemmän kuin tuhat sanaa... tässä pdf tuubihuivin toteutus piirroksina.
Piirroksissa sininen ja punainen kuvaavat kahta eri lankaa, jotka voivat halutessa olla samanväriset tai eriväriset. Cyanin värinen kuvaa sitä, että sinisellä langalla tehdään piilosilmukka jo tehtyyn punaiseen lankaan. Magenta taas juuri päinvastoin eli punaisella langalla tehdään piilosilmukka sinisellä langalla tehtyyn ketjusilmukkaan. Osa piilosilmukoista on merkitty myös väkäsin, jotta piirroksista saisi edes jotain tolkkua.

Ja kyllä! Malli vaatii jonkin verran työn kääntelyä tai vaihtoehtoisesti erittäin notkeita ranteita. Tehdään kuitenkin ainoastaan oikealla puolella, jotta ketjusilmukat jäävät näkyviin. Juurikin ketjusilmukoiden ansiosta huivi on todella joustava. Kaikkia piilosilmukkakohtia en piirroksiin... noh... jaksanut laittaa, mutta näin jälkeenpäin ajateltuna eivät edes ole työn kannalta välttämättömiä ja säästää aika paljon aikaa kun ei tarvitse hyppiä kahden eri langan välillä parin silmukan välein.

*Realization
The model consist only of chain crochets and slip stitches. Picture tells more than thousand words... here's pdf, where's drawings of the tube scarf. 
In the drawings blue and red represent two different yarns, which can be to same colors or different colors. Cyan presents slip stitches crocheted to red chains and magenta the other way around. Some of the slip stiches are shown also with barbs, so that the drawings would be easier to read. 

And yes! The model requires whole lot of turning or else you have to have very flexible wrists. But still it is supposed to be worked only on the right side, so that the chains will appear always on the same side. Due to the chain crochets, the scarf is very stretchy. I didn't mark all the slip stitches... 'cause I was lazy. But now afterwards I have to admit that all of them aren't necessary and it saves a lot of time, when you don't have to switch between the yarns so often.*

Virkattu hellehattu *Crocheted summer hat*

Eeei tuolla ulkona nyt niiiin kylmä ole, etteikö tässä voisi hellehatuistakin puhua. Onhan jossain päin maailmaa tälläkin hetkellä helle... Toki tämän samaisen lakin voi tehdä paksummasta villalangasta, jolloin lopputuloksena on jotain talvihatun tyylistä. Suomenkielisenä löytyy esimerkiksi Novitalta juuri talvikäyttöön sopiva virkattu hattu, joka on hyvin samantyylinen tämän hatun kanssa. Tämä oli nyt tosiaan se Crochet Along on Google+ -yhteisön tämän kuun arpeetti.

*Well, it's not sooo cold outside, that it's not OK to talk about summer hats. At least somewhere in the planet it's hot right now. Sure it's possible to knit this hat using thicker yarn and have a winter hat. This was the project of the month in Crochet Along on Google+ community.*

Koska käytin huomattavasti ohuempaa lankaa, jouduin hieman tuunaamaan ohjetta, jottei hattu jää vaippaikäisen pään kokoiseksi. Ohje nyt oli muutenkin pienemmälle päälle, kun itsellä on sen 56 cm koppa. 
Eli kerros 14 tein 5 ks, 2 ks samaan silmukkaan, *9 ks, 2 ks yhteen silmukkaan* 4 ks. Lisäysten ja otsanauhan väliin tein kaikkiaan 20 kerrosta. Myös lieriin tein kaksi lisäyskerrosta enemmän. Hatusta tuli hieman reilu, mutta sehän ei haittaa. Mahtuupahan päähän, vaikka hiukset olisivat kiinni. Ja kyllä! käytin 6 mm koukkua...

*Because I used thinner yarn, I had to modify the pattern, to fit it into adult head. The pattern was also made for smaller head than my 56 cm. 
So the round 14 I made sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, sc in next 4 sc. Between the increasings and the band I made total of 20 rounds. I also made two more increasing rounds to the brim. The hat turned out a bit too large, but that's fine. Now it fits even if I had my hair up. And yes! I did use 6 mm hook...*

Ohjeessahan oli myös rusetti, mutta itse en kovin ihastunut siihen, joten jätin tekemättä. Hiukkasen harkitisin kyllä kukkaa, joita olin tehnyt virkattuihin hiuspantoihin, mutta jäipä sekin tekemättä.

*In the pattern there was also a bow, but I didn't quite like it, so I left it out. I thought the flower, I made for the headbands, would fit, but didn't do that either.*

Helpot ja nopeat virkatut hiuspannat *Easy and fast crocheted headbands*

Jottei tämä nyt menisi täysin neulonnan puolelle, niin tähän väliin vähän virkkausta. Crochet Along on Google+ -yhteisössä oli tässä kuussa MiniCAL hiuspannat ennen varsinaista kuukauden projektia. Hiuspannoistahan mulla on jo  aikaisempaa kokemusta. Päätin kokeilla pantoja kahdesta erilaisesta langasta.

*So that this blog wouldn't end up being just about knitting, here's some crocheting. In Crochet Along on Google+ community was MiniCAL headbands before the project of this month. Since I'm already familiar with headbands, so that was good. I decided to try these with two different kinds of yarn.*

Tähän noin 56 cm päähäni sain mitoitettua pannan noin 70 silmukalla. Pantaahan ei suinkaan ole tarkoitus käyttää hikipanta tyylisesti, joten on aina parempi kokeilla silmukkamäärä suoraan pannan käyttäjän mukaan. Ajatukseni oli, että harmaata olisi voinut käyttää ihan talvipantana, mutta näillä pakkasilla ei ihan heti tulisi mieleen lähteä ulos pelkkä panta päässä. 

*I'm made about 70 chain crochets for my 56 cm head. Since it's not supposed to be worn like sweatband, it's good to adjust the number of crochets to its future user by trying it on. I thought the gray one would be a winter band, but now that's it's so cold in Finland (at the moment), I wouldn't even think of going out just wearing that band in my head. A real hat is definitely needed!*

Neulotut ja virkatut joululahjat sukulaisille *Knitted and crocheted Christmas gifts for relatives*

Tänä vuonna päätin tehdä suurimman osan sukulaisten joululahjoista itse. Tiskirättejä neuloin kaikenkaikkiaan 8 kappaletta ja kaitaliinoja virkkasin 2. Toinen kaitaliina tosin jäi kiireessä kuvaamatta, kun piti saada pikaisesti pakettiin. Muutin kuviota aikaisemmin tekemääni kaitaliinaan verrattuna. Jos joku kaipailee tuota mallia, niin voin jossakin käänteessä kirjoitella sen helpommin luettavaan muotoon.
 
*This year I decided to make most of the Christmas presents for the relatives myself. In total I knitted 8 dishclots and crocheted 2 table runners. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the second table runner, since I was in a hurry to wrap it up. I changed the pattern compared to the table runner I made earlier. If someone wishes to have the pattern, I can write it in more readable form some day.*

Joulupukki toi muuten uuden kameran, mutta nämä kuvat piti ottaa ennen joulupukin saapumista, joten ovat vielä kännykkäkameralla räpsittyjä. Jatkossa kuvat tulevat kuitenkin olemaan hieman laadukkaampia (jos ja kun opin käyttämään kameraa kunnolla)!  

*By the way, Santa brought me a new camera, but these pictures had to be taken before Santa's arrival. Therefore these pictures are still taken with cell phone camera. In the future, the picture in this blog will be a bit better quality (if I manage to learn how to use the camera)!*

DIY Viinilasimerkit *DIY Wine glass charms*

Vaikka jouluakaan ei ole vielä vietetty, on ihan hyvä hetki valmistautua uuden vuoden juhliin! Nämä viinilasimerkithän käyvät yhtä hyvin samppanjalaseihin. Viinilasimerkit on loistava tapa merkitä lasit siten, että vieraat tunnistavat omansa pitkin iltaa. Käyvätpä nämä myöskin muihin juhliin kuten häihin, syntymäpäiville tai vaikkapa lahjaksi ystäville. Ajatus näiden tekemiseen tuli Google+ palvelun "Crochet Along on Google+" -yhteisöstä, jossa tämän kuun tehtävänä on viinilasimerkit. Tässä on nyt sitten minun taidonnäytteeni.

*Although Christmas hasn't been celebrated, it's good time to get ready for New Year's party! These wine glass charms are suitable for champagne glasses as well. Wine glass charms are brilliant for marking glasses so that guests recognize their own throughout the night. These can be used in other parties too for example weddings, birthday parties or just given as gifts to friends. The idea of making these came from "Crochet Along on Google+" community, where the task of the month is wine glass charms. Here's the ones I made.

Ensin pujoti lankaan 6 helmeä. Sitten virkkasin 13 kiinteää silmukkaa renkaaseen. Toisessa kerroksessa joka toiseen kiinteään silmukkaan siirretään lankaan pujotettu helmi. Päätellessä langat, vedin langan päät ensin umpisolmuun ja sen jälkeen vedin langat päät neulalla pienen matkan työn "sisälle". Näitähän voi oman maun mukaan varioida miten itse haluaa. Mikä estää käyttämästä samanväristä lankaa ja vaihtaa vain helmien väriä. Voihan näitä tehdä myös erikokoisiin renkaisiin. Niin ja pystyypä näitä käyttämään myös toisinpäin.

*First I strung 6 beads on the thread. Then I crocheted 13 single crochets on the ring. On the second row pulled one bead (already strung on the thread) to every second single crochet. In the end, I made overhand knot with the ends and then weaved them to the project. These can be variated whatever way you want. What prevents you to use same color of thread and just change the colors of charms. You can use different size of earring hoops as well. Aaand you can also use these the other way around.*

Virkattu "istuintyyny" pyöreille istuimille *Crocheted "chair pad" for round seat*

Yön yli mietin, että kehtaanko edes julkaista tätä. Tulin kuitenkin siihen tulokseen, että ehkäpä joku saa tästä inspiraation tai idean, jonka voi sitten minullekin kertoa! Sain nimittäin virkattua ja huovutettua liinaa tehdessä ajatuksen kokeilla tehdä ruokapöydän tuoleille "istuintyynyt". Tuo laminaatti pinta kun tuntuu ihan älyttömän vilpalle pepun alla. Lankana käytin SandnesGarn Fritidsgarn:ina väri 1012 ja koukkuna käytin 8. "Malli" on tehty ainoastaan puolipylväillä. Tässä teos ennen huovutusta.  

*I had think over night, if I dare to publish this. I came to conclusion that maybe someone gets inspiration or some ideas out of this and will share it with me. When I was making the crocheted and felted cloth I got an idea to try making chair pads for our dining chairs. The laminate coating feels so cold under your butt. The yarn that I used was SandnesGarn Fritidsgan color 1012 and hook size was 8 mm. "The pattern" consists of only half double crochets. Here's the creation before felting.*

Ja tässä teos pesukoneessa huovutuksen jälkeen. Vähän jäi naftiksi ja muutenkin vaikuttaa hieman ohuelta käyttötarkoitukseen nähden, vaikken mitään varsinaista pehmustetta ollut ajatellutkaan tehdä. Mahtaisikohan vielä paksumpi lanka auttaa asiaan tai jokin muu virkkaus tai neulonta tyyli?

*And here's the creation after felting in washing machine. As you can see, it ended up being a bit too small as well as thin for intended use, even though I wasn't planning to make an actual padding. Would thicker yarn or other crocheting (or knitting) style help?* 

  

Virkattu huovutettu liina *Crocheted felted cloth*

Näin kaitaliinamallia etsiessä virkatun ja huovutetun liinan. Nyt oli ihan pakko testata tuota huovutusta, kun siitä ei ole vielä mitään kokemusta! Ohje löytyi sattumalta Google kuvahaun kautta ja löytyy Novitan nettisivuilta. Kuten arvata saattaa, ei tämäkään mennyt ihan ohjeen mukaan. Kiinteät silmukat muuttui piilosilmukoiksi ja viimeisen kierroksen ketjusilmukkakaaretkin ovat erilaiset, mutta väliäkö hällä. Lankana käytin SandnesGarn Fritidsgarn:ina väri 1012 ja koukkuna käytin 8. Tässä liina ennen huovutusta pesukoneessa.

*When I was searching for nice pattern for the table runner I bumped into crocheted and felted colt. Now I really had to try the felting, since I didn't have any experience about it. The pattern was found randomly with Google search and the it can be found at Novita webpage (in Finnish, I can translate it if someone wants). As usual, this didn't go like the pattern says. I accidentally changed single crochets to slip stitches and the chains on the last round are different, but who cares. The yarn that I used was SandnesGarn Fritidsgan color 1012 and hook size 8 mm. Here's the cloth before felting in the washing machine.*

Pakko vielä lisätä, että liina kutistui aika paljon pesukoneessa, mikä ei ihan helpolla käy ilmi näistä kuvista.

Virkkauksen aloitus *Beginning of crocheting*

Ostettuani virkkuukoukun tiskirättien reunojen ja ripustuslenksun tekemiseen, putkahti jostain mieleen yläasteella virkkaamani kaitaliina, joka jäi aikoinaan äidin silloiselle miesystävälle. Halusin ehdottomasti kokeilla sellaisen tekoa uudelleen, koska ruokapöytämme selvästi oli liinaa vaille. Nettiä pitkään epätoivoisena selailtuani, kerroin työkaverilleni etten millään löydä haluamaani ruutuvirkkausmallia kaitaliinaan. Hän käytti samaa tuttua lausahdusta, kuin aikoinaan villasukkia pyytäessäni ”tee ite”! Eipä siinä muu auttanut kuin ottaa ruutupaperit pöytälaatikosta ja alkaa suunnittelemaan omaa köynnöskuviota. Tältä se näytti alussa puolessa välissä, kun halusin näyttää ystävälleni miltä tuotos näyttää. 

*When I bought the crochet hook for the borders of the dishcloths, I remember a table runner I made in middle school. And which I left to my mom's boyfriend at that time. I definitely wanted to try make it again since our dining table clearly needed one. After browsing through internet and not finding a pattern I like, I told my friend I was desperate. She said the same when I asked her new woolen socks year ago "do it yourself"! So I took graph paper out of drawer and started to  design own leaf pattern. Here's how it looked in the middle of making process, when I wanted to show off my friend, how it was going to look like.*
